Other Services Available
Bottom Painting (off site service available)
Winterization protects the engine from freezing and extreme temperatures swings which cause condensation that leads to corrosion and water accumulation in the fuel. We top off the fuel and add fuel stabilizer to protect the fuel system. We fog the internal cylinders and spray the outside of the engine and lower unit with anti-corrosion lubricant. The batteries are disconnected and the lower unit is checked for water contamination. Stern drive engines are flushed with antifreeze. The cost of fuel, stabilizer and antifreeze are added to the base cost.
Salt-away does for outboards what antifreeze does for stern drive engines. This treatment removes salt build-up from the internal engine cooling system and provides a protective anti-corrosion coating to protect your engine during storage. We also recommend this service during the boating season for both engine types, when not being used for an extended period (30days). Labor and the product for this task is $39.95
FRESH WATER SYSTEMS
Fresh water systems also need draining and antifreeze treatment to prevent damage during cold weather storage. Costs depend on time and materials used to complete this task. Generators also need to be winterized.
EXHAUST RISERS INSPECTION
Exhaust risers inspection should be done every 2 years. Corrosion build-up in the water jackets is the primary cause of overheating and loss of power for stern drive engines. We will pull, inspect and Email you photos of your manifolds and risers for your records. Salt-Away treatments before long periods of non-use, during the boating season, can greatly extend the useful life of the risers, as this can be an expensive repair.
ANNUAL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
Annual routine maintenance extends the life of your boat engine just as it does for your automobile. Life on & in salt water is tough on a boat engine. All engine manufactures recommend routine service at every 100 hours or each year. Even slightly used motor oil can contain acids and moisture that can pit internal engine parts during storage. The rubber water pump impeller can also deteriorate during storage, as it dries out. The end of boating season is a great time to schedule this service so you will be ready for the next season. The annual services includes engine oil & filter, fuel filter & fuel-water separator filter, lower unit oil, greasing of prop shafts and fittings. The 200 hour/2year service is the same as above but is our designation to indicate that we now need to install a new water pump impeller. Stern drive boats may need some of the other services listed. Please give us a call and discuss your options. Pricing is based labor time, parts & materials for each engine type.
Summerization is the in-water running of your boat to determine operational status (starts, runs, shifts, steering, etc.) and checks the required safety items (navigation lights, horn, gauges, bilge pumps, etc.). When the weather turns nice everyone wants to go boating so do not wait until the last few days to request your service. Generally by April first we have several weeks of work scheduled and if we find something that needs repair on your boat we may need to order parts which would add additional time to your work order. Plan ahead and schedule your summarization early, even if it will be a month before using the boat.
DETAIL / WASH & WAX
Detail/wash and wax helps you keep your boat cleaner and looking great. Boats that are stored inside can benefit from having this done in the fall or winter. A good wax finish should make a quick rinse all that is needed to get ready for your first outing of the season. This will also help in clean up on your return to the Marina. Owners that use their boats frequently should consider a mid-season detail. Please contact us to obtain a quote for detailing, as rates start at $17 a foot. We also do bottom painting and have great, responsive sub-contractors that can do fiberglass repair and upholstery & canvas work. We can also handle prop repair & refinishing.
Zinc anodes are corrosion protection for the metal parts that spend time in salt water. We keep most of these in stock so be sure to take a look at these items on your lower units for both outboard and stern drive boats. Outboard engines have internal zincs that should be checked every 3 years for a high use boats and 5 years for the rest. This past year we have changed several on boats in this age range.
